| The island of eimnos is an unprepossessing place with brown grass, brown mountains, and sheep… and it definitely makes one want to follow the ancient tradition of crying when first arriving there. However, the peace and tranquil lifestyle of the island, coupled with the excellent wines produced from its volcanic soil soon impacts on the soul and a certain restfulness envelopes one, which no doubt accounts for the second part of the legend when they say everybody who visits Limnos cries twice, once on arriving and again on leaving. |

Polyochol – High on a cliff top is a fortified town levelled by a catastrophic earthquake in 2100 BC, where excavations so far reveal four levels of habitations.
Kontias – Red-tiled houses and the only pine forest on the island, make Kontias an attractive village that blends comfortably with the surrounding landscape.
Ifasisteia – Excavations on Ifasteia, that was once the largest city on the island, so far reveal parts of a necropolis, Roman theatre and foundations of Hephaistos’s temple.
Myrina – Set between two sandy bays at the base of a rocky promontory, with cobbled streets and impressive Ottoman houses, Myrina is a pleasant unpretentious place.
Beaches – Locals gather with food, wine and guitars under the full moon on the sandy beaches near Myrina welcoming all to join in the revelry.
